Good articles have been written about why it’s okay to grieve for someone you’ve never met, a favorite actor or singer, for example. It’s natural when music, or art of any kind, profoundly affects us, speaks to our souls, and it’s okay to grieve the artist who sparked those feelings. Ant-Man was a hugely popular entry in Marvel’s “Phase 2” series, adding more comedy to the mix, primarily in the brilliant casting of Paul Rudd as the hero and the hilarious Michael Pena as his buddy Luis. There’s a scene fairly early on where Luis shows his concern for his little band of criminal friends by preparing a meal for them.

What food memory takes you home? What flavor or smell transports you to a long-ago time or place?
Baked custard is forever linked with my grandmother. Whether she came to our house, or we visited hers, there was always baked custard with nutmeg on top. She baked it in white milk glass custard cups. Custard and any food filled with custard remain my absolute favorite foods. My ultimate comfort food.

We’re fortunate enough to live just a few blocks from one of the great American restaurants, Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles. The first time I saw the place, I thought it sounded bizarre; chicken and waffles, in my mind, went together like spaghetti and ice cream. But I was intrigued, and after hearing from friends, we finally ventured forth and found out that chicken and waffles are a marriage made in heaven.
